Current Implementations for the McGuffey Virtual School District: McGuffey Virtual School District
1. The high school students are building a virtual historical center which highlights the history of the district and the work of Mr. William Holmes McGuffey. This can be a historical lesson for our K-6 students if they explore the world as well as any other visitor.
2.The district Administrative team will build a Welcome Center to our land parcel where they will address the school district and administrative educational uses for virtual worlds.
3.The students in the Foreign Language department are going to recreate a cultural area based upon their world language. They will then invite other students in other districts all around the world to engage in conversation on a daily basis.
4.The Library Club students will create the ultimate student Library to host electronic text and media. This will include popular works as well as student publications.
5.The students in art related courses can upload art projects in their own Art Museum building.
6.The math department can use the building aspect of the virtual world as a complement to the geometry curriculum. Student projects can involve building as a final assessment.
7.The English department will build a student virtual showcase of work that will include research papers, poetry and speeches.
8.Laura Jacob is building a segment for educators presenting the research of learning in virtual worlds.
9. Students will build a music area, such as a stage and giant jukebox to host student created music.
10. Some students will be assigned responsibilities to create tutorials on building and scripting. The tutorials will be hosted on this wikispace as well as in-world to assist in teaching others.
